Protect Massage Worker Rights!

On June 3rd, 2026 @DecrimSB hosted an evening to learn from local massage workers in conversation with activist scholars Dr. Mireille Miller-Young and Dr. Kimberly Soriano. The event unpacked evidence based research and lived-experience spotlighting local massage workers to inform community organizers about what kind of support massage workers and sex workers are actually asking for!

Zines for massage worker rights!

On May 29th 2026 DecrimSB partnered with The Woman’s Center and Dr. Mireille Miller-Young to hold a zine making session geared toward coalition building. The event focused on how to effectively communicate the documented harms of carceral approaches that feed the CRIMMIGATION SYSTEM and the real violence migrant massage workers face at the hands of discriminatory legislation.

Santa Barbara Decrim in the news

“Mireille Miller-Young, a UCSB professor in feminist studies, argued that the ordinance would give the police “free rein” to raid businesses.
“It’s basically an excuse that allows police to enter a private establishment where there was no issue, no complaint, no heads up about something, and say ‘we’re doing this to protect the workers,’” Miller-Young said.
She added that this was particularly disturbing with anti-Asian violence rising during the pandemic and the recent increase in immigration enforcement.
“What we’re talking about is this is an excuse to bring more policing and ICE into our communities,” Miller-Young said. “It’s not at all about protecting clients, protecting workers from any kind of abuse by owners.”
